Join the forest interpreter for a leisurely paddle around Groton Pond to view local wildlife and imagine the pond as it used to be. This program is free, but canoes and kayaks are limited. You must call ahead at (802)584-3822 to register for this program. We will be meeting at the boat launch at Stillwater State Park. A day use fee of $3 applies if you are not camping at the park.

Make a Inuksuk or Cairn at the Nature Center Beach from 1-2pm, and a Let’s Go Birding Program from 2-3pm -- Nate has binoculars and field guides to borrow.

Venture into the park with Ranger Lisa Liotta and experience nature in a whole new way by keeping a nature journal! A nature journal can be anything you want it to be – a place to sketch or write, describe plants, animals, trees, landscapes, or anything else found in nature. Observing the wonders of nature will be our focus – no art or writing experience is required! Paper and basic art supplies to try out nature journaling provided.

Optional supplies: Your nature journal (or a blank writing or art book in which to begin), any personal writing or art supplies you may wish to use, insect repellant, a small cushion upon which to sit, a snack and/or beverage. Comfortable walking shoes recommended.

Niquette Bay State Park

Join us for a beginning to intermediate level nature photography workshop with local photographer Robert Chaperon, Jr. Wear comfortable walking shoes for venturing into the park, and bring your camera (also a tripod if you have one) as we learn about exposures, depth of focus, white balance, focusing and composition. Robert’s interest in photography started in 2003, when he started hiking the many trails in Vermont and New York. Being awakened to the natural beauty that nature presents us, he felt a sensation within that he wanted to share with others through photography. Robert believes that the most important part of being an artist of photography is expressing his inner feelings while having fun!Robert believes fine art photography should touch and draw from our emotions.

This is a free workshop for season’s pass holders, Green Mountain Passport holders, and with paid admission the day of the workshop. Everything changes in the park after dark! Watch the moon rise behind the Green Mountains over lake Champlain from Cedar Point. Listen for owls and explore Niquette Bay State Park on a guided 2-mile hike over moderate terrain in a magical mix of shadows and moonlight.

Optional items to bring: insect repellant, headlamp or flashlight (recommended), a small seat cushion, beverages and/or snacks. We’ll meet at the trailhead in the park to start this hike.

Space is limited, please call the park to RSVP at 802.893.5210 or stop in at the park office to reserve space! This event is free for season pass holders or with paid admission to the park the day of the event.

Let's Get Outside Exploring Hikes

Come and join us as we explore nature in Quechee Gorge! We are going to put on our Explorer packs and hike down into the Gorge. With magnifying glasses and bug boxes, paper, pencils and crayons we are going to explore and record what we find on our travels and see, listen, and smell the wonderful world of Quechee Gorge and its inhabitants, from the smallest bug to the biggest tree. This exploratory hike will last approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours. We will leave from the Quechee Gorge Visitor Center at 10 AM.

Bring water and snacks, wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared to dig, delve, splash, and explore. Bring a lunch and enjoy one of our picnic areas or grab something from one of the local stores, restaurants, or snack bar.

Ren and Helen Davis will give a presentation on the impact of the CCC nationwide, as well in Vermont, including Mt. Ascutney and Wilgus State Parks. Ren and Helen are authors of the book Our Mark on This Land: A Guide to the Legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps in America's Parks. The book profiles the work of the New Deal era CCC in more than 350 state and national parks across the country.

The Milton Community Bandbrings an outdoor concert-in-the-park to Sand Bar on beautiful Lake Champlain. With something for everyone, the program will include popular music, show themes, dance tunes parade marches, folk ballads and more. Pull up a lawn chair to watch, enjoy the concert from the beach, or relax and listen from your picnic site – it’s sure to enhance your day at the park!

Join us for a beginning to intermediate level nature photography workshop with local photographer Robert Chaperon, Jr. Wear comfortable walking shoes for venturing into the park, and bring your camera (also a tripod if you have one) as we learn about exposures, depth of focus, white balance, focusing and composition. Robert’s interest in photography started in 2003, when he started hiking the many trails in Vermont and New York. Being awakened to the natural beauty that nature presents us, he felt a sensation within that he wanted to share with others through photography. Robert believes that the most important part of being an artist of photography is expressing his inner feelings while having fun!Robert believes fine art photography should touch and draw from our emotions.

This is a free workshop for season’s pass holders, Green Mountain Passport holders, and with paid admission the day of the workshop. Let's Get Outside Exploring Hikes

Come and join us as we explore nature in Quechee Gorge! We are going to put on our Explorer packs and hike down into the Gorge. With magnifying glasses and bug boxes, paper, pencils and crayons we are going to explore and record what we find on our travels and see, listen, and smell the wonderful world of Quechee Gorge and its inhabitants, from the smallest bug to the biggest tree. This exploratory hike will last approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours. We will leave from the Quechee Gorge Visitor Center at 10 AM.

Bring water and snacks, wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared to dig, delve, splash, and explore. Bring a lunch and enjoy one of our picnic areas or grab something from one of the local stores, restaurants, or snack bar.

Optional items to bring: insect repellant, headlamp or flashlight (recommended), a small seat cushion, beverages and/or snacks. We’ll meet at the trailhead in the park to start this hike.

Muck It Up! is suitable for the weekend warrior or triathlete looking to push their boundaries in a challenging and fun backwoods, off-road course, with mystery challenges along the way.

Challenges include: 7 mile TRAIL RUN at Niquette Bay State Park, 6 mile PADDLE across Malletts Bay, 7.5 mile MOUNTAIN BIKE, and Mystery Challenges along the way!

Come join us as we explore the beauty and changing season of Quechee Gorge! A guided History hike through Quechee Gorge will leave from the visitor center at 10:00am. The hike will last approximately 1½ hours. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle. Learn the history of Quechee and the Gorge. Learn about the flood of 2011 and the woolen mill that was once here. Watch the changing foliage and explore Vermont’s “Little Grand Canyon.”

Quechee
State Park

Come and join us as we explore nature in Quechee Gorge! We are going to put on our Explorer packs and hike down into the Gorge. With magnifying glasses and bug boxes, paper, pencils and crayons we are going to explore and record what we find on our travels and see, listen, and smell the wonderful world of Quechee Gorge and its inhabitants, from the smallest bug to the biggest tree. This exploratory hike will last approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours. We will leave from the Quechee Gorge Visitor Center at 10 AM.

Bring water and snacks, wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared to dig, delve, splash, and explore. Bring a lunch and enjoy one of our picnic areas or grab something from one of the local stores, restaurants, or snack bar.

State Park

Jamaica State Park is the center of activity for the West River whitewater event each September as the US Army Corps of Engineers releases water from its Ball Mountain Dam. The controlled water releases produce ideal rafting, kayaking, and canoeing opportunities on the West River in southern Vermont.

Everything changes in the park after dark! Watch the moon rise behind the Green Mountains over lake Champlain from Cedar Point. Listen for owls and explore Niquette Bay State Park on a guided 2-mile hike over moderate terrain in a magical mix of shadows and moonlight.

Optional items to bring: insect repellant, headlamp or flashlight (recommended), a small seat cushion, beverages and/or snacks. We’ll meet at the trailhead in the park to start this hike.

Space is limited, please call the park to RSVP at 802.893.5210 or stop in at the park office to reserve space! This event is free for season pass holders or with paid admission to the park the day of the event.

Hike subject to cancellation due to inclement weather. Please leave pets at home for this event.

Welcome to Wonderland and the crazy world of the Mad Hatter. As you all know Alice went back home with promises to return, but Hatter has lost hope and without his friend is slowly sinking deeper into madness. When Alice learned of this she returned to Wonderland, but was captured by the Bloody Red Queen! The Bloody Red Queen has hidden Alice in the Forest of Gloom and Doom. In his search for Alice, Hatter is becoming madder and madder and Madder and Wonderland is running amock!
