Recreational Activities

Seyon Lodge State Park

<< Region IV

Seyon Lodge State Park is a great place for outdoor enthusiasts to come and enjoy with friends and family, any day of the week, all seasons.  Here are just some of the activities you can enjoy in the park and in Groton State Forest:

Summer

Fly Fishing: Noyes Pond is perhaps the biggest draw here at Seyon Lodge, offering Vermont’s sole public fly fishing only pond.  The pond offers a remote setting anglers appreciate as much for its quiet sense of solitude, as for the pristine breeding ground it creates for native square tail brook trout.

Row boats can be rented onsite and are the only boats allowed on the pond.

Hiking:  Whether you are looking for an extensive, all-day hike or a quick stroll Groton State Forest is the place.  Groton is home to 26,000 acres of protected forest land and miles of hiking trails.  Seyon Lodge State Park itself, has a small network of hiking trails.  Take a one mile walk along Noyes Pond or venture further out into the Seyon Basin, loaded with wildlife, and take in views of magnificent Spruce Mountain along the way.

Biking: With just a short ride for access to the Cross Vermont Trail, Seyon Lodge State Park is the perfect place to begin a days worth of mountain or road biking.  Bikes are available for rent through Across VT Bicycle Rental.

Picnics:  Bring a picnic breakfast, lunch, or dinner and enjoy the views of Noyes Pond and the surrounding mountain landscape while you dine.  Or, if you prefer, call in advance and arrange a picnic lunch made by the park Innkeepers.  Either way, Seyon Lodge State Park is a lovely place to enjoy a tasty meal in a beautiful setting.

Boating:  If fishing is not for you, but you like to get out on the water, Boulder Beach State Park on Lake Groton offers a variety of boat rentals including row boats, kayaks, and canoes.  There is also a drive-in boat launch area if you want to bring your own boat, including motor boats.

Kettle Pond and Ricker Pond offer a car-top boat launch area for those looking for a quieter option.

  • Please note:  Row boats can be rented onsite at Seyon Lodge State Park and are the only boats allowed on the pond.
Swimming:  Guests at Seyon Lodge State Park have free access to the sandy swimming and picnic area at Boulder Beach State Park.
Nature Programs:  The Groton Nature Center offers a variety of educational programs, based on natural history and exploration, for all ages, and is located just down the road from Seyon Lodge.

Cross-Country Skiing and Snow Shoeing (seasonally):  With a beautiful network of about 5 miles of groomed cross-country skiing trails, Seyon Lodge State Park is the perfect place to come to get out into nature on a lovely winter day. A longer snowshoeing trail branches off of the ski trails and into the Seyon Basin for those that prefer walking to skiing.
