Facilities:
The historic Stone Hut was originally built
as a warming hut in 1936 by the Civilian Conservation Corps
(CCC). These same crews cut some of the original ski trails
on Mt. Mansfield. Once a home away from home for the ski pioneers
of Vermont, it is now operated as a public lodging facility
with a unique partnership between the Vermont Department of
Forests, Parks, and Recreation and the Stowe Mountain Resort
(Mt. Mansfield Company) between Mid-November and Mid-April.
Reservation Procedure:
Stone Hut reservations are run on a lottery system. Reservation requests are taken with payment of $150.00 (includes rooms & meals tax) per night, per group, through the end of October. Please sign up for the Stone Hut Mailing List (above) for our annual informational email. The reservations are then separated into groups based on the number of nights in the stay requested. Reservations are selected at random from the group with the longest stays to the shortest stay. If the request can be filled, the payment is processed, otherwise it is returned. To increase your odds request as many sets of alternate days as possible. Shortly after the lottery is complete, reservations for the remaining days are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Policies and Procedures:
The hut sleeps up to twelve people with wood platforms and
mattresses. The only heat is by a wood stove. Firewood is
provided in a woodshed outside of the Hut. Kindling is not
provided. Guests must furnish all cooking, lighting and sleeping
gear and be prepared for winter camping. The Stone Hut operates
on a carry in - carry out policy. The Hut is a historic building
located in a fragile mountain ecosystem. Please keep the area
in and around the Hut clean.
Through our partnership with the Mt. Mansfield Company, restrooms,
water and a courtesy phone are available in the Octagon near
the Hut. The Hut is accessible by chairlift during the Stowe
Mountain Resort ski season. Lift tickets are not included,
single ride lift tickets can be purchased from the resort.
The Quad chairlift to reach the Hut operates from 7:30 a.m.
until 4:00 p.m. The only baggage to ride on the lift is what
you can carry on your lap. There will be no downloading service
for persons or gear.
